Henry Rollins - Spoken Word Show

Liverpool Academy, 30/8/08.

Was not sure what to expect here. This was a spoken word show, but I had been told that Rollins was very entertaining.
HR came in good time to a packed out (seated) Academy. He started by saying that he is still basically an angry man. He tells of how wherever he travels in the world he walks down the street holds out his hand and says 'Hi I'm Henry'.

Being an American and the places he visits are considered by his government as risky, his jist being he wants to find out why the world hates America. He explains that yes the administration is corrupt and hated but in general most Americans are nice decent people.

He diversified of course with less serious material, a piece on Van Halen's reunion and another on Ozzy. In fairness these were made interesting by some very good impressions of the above.

One interesting segment explained that whilst going through airport security once he was being ignored and the guy in front was getting all the attention. The guy turned out to be Cat Stevens. He explained that he loved his music and the album 'Tea for the...........'. I didn't hear exactly what he said but it wasn't Tillerman, a faux pas I think.
Ok I'm a geek.
I did enjoy this show though. Incidentally in Academy 2 next door the Gutter Twins were playing. So there was Rollins, Langan and Dulli all in the same building. Bet there was a bit of partying later.
