Cymbals Eat Guitars

Night & Day, Manchester, 17/11/09.

Made usual way to Manchester, though had to change at Oxford Rd to get to Piccadilly. Got there in good time was tempted to go to Piccadilly Records as CEG were playing an acoustic pre- gig 'in store' but by the time I'd booked into the Crown and with it being a cold wet dreary night I didn't bother. After securing sustenance got to the N&D around 8ish. Not too many people milling around as the first band came on. 'Egyptian Hip Hop', curious name for a band but hey they were alright. A bunch of young kids playing upbeat poppy stuff, not hip hop, thank god.

Second band were not much, they were decent musicians but played nothing new or interesting.

CEG came on the place had filled a little but not enough to temp people to the front of the stage. I had my usual position at the piano. They opened up with song one of the album and proceeded to rattle of some good tunes. The main focus of the band was the singer/guitarist who really was the main man. After a while it became blatant that there was no communication between the band. The bass player seemed out on a limb he never turned to the drummer, said guitarist never turned to the bass player. It was weired, as a band they were tight enough but you sensed there wasn't harmony there somehow.

It certainly was the singers band and he took all the applause at the end and was the only one to say thanks etc.

I enjoyed them though but was puzzled by their lack of communication as I left into the wet Manchester night, is there any other!

Im now working on posting my fave albums of the year and also the decade, hmmm.
